EARTH DAY, Friday April 22nd
OAA will be participating in an outdoor Street Festival on Sparks Street Mall to raise awareness of the effects of factory farming on the environment and promote vegan/vegetarianism. I've been told that there will be speakers, musicians and information tables sponsored by different local groups. Please e-mail me if you would be willing to help for an hour or two on the Friday between 11am-1pm. We will need volunteers to leaflet, and possibly wear a chicken costume or promote vegan/vegetarian foods. We're still not exactly sure what we'll be doing but we'll need volunteers either way to make our table sucessful and get the message out (among others) that real environmentalists don't eat meat!

Vegan/Vegetarian Potluck: OAA is going to schedule a summer picnic potluck at a local park most likely in mid-late June. It could be more fun that way anyways as people could also play some frisbee or badminton or whatver plus it's free to have it there. I would really appreciate it if you could still make the $10 donation (to support OAA) on behalf of yourself and your guests if they would like to still come to a picnic version of the potluck in a few months. You can make the donation(s): 1) At the demo next Saturday2) come to the meeting at Bridgehead on the 21st or just drop by then with your donation.Anyone who makes a $10 donation will be marked down on a guest list as having paid for the SUMMER POTLUCK event and will just need to bring themselves and their food dish. Details on the picnic to come in later updates.
Seal Hunt.. If you haven't yet done it...
Hi there, It's me, Edelweiss, on a cheery campaign to help little wet creatures! Yeah, it's true that seal hunters need work (although I think they should make environmentally friendly furniture from wheatboard, an agricultural waste product made of chopped straw and nontoxic glue--or something like that--instead. Create a job that can provide employment for years to come!). It's true that there are diminishing stocks of fish (although as omnivores, I think people should cut down on fish consumption rather than seals). But there are lots of compelling reasons to stop the seal hunt (keep wet cute creatures alive; leave the marine ecosystem alone). Please consider writing in and asking that the seal hunt be banned or restricted. http://www.stopthesealhunt.com/site/apps/ka/ct/contactcustom.asp?c=hmKYJeNVJtF&b=412891
