New Mailing List
Hey guys, if you haven't noticed my mailing list has DIED and if you sent any emails to the old list, I never received them! I set up a google group because there have been things to talk about and I can't wait for the other one to be fixed-if ever. Complicated situation. I made it a public group to hopefully attract more interested members, (the other mailing list was also public, but not as easily accessible--google's more popular than my lil' website). Let me know what you think, and start sending all those overdue messages!

RSVP for Ottawa Veg*n events here: http://vegetarian.meetup.com/6/events/
EARTH DAY, Friday April 22nd
OAA will be participating in an outdoor Street Festival on Sparks Street Mall to raise awareness of the effects of factory farming on the environment and promote vegan/vegetarianism. I've been told that there will be speakers, musicians and information tables sponsored by different local groups. Please e-mail me if you would be willing to help for an hour or two on the Friday between 11am-1pm. We will need volunteers to leaflet, and possibly wear a chicken costume or promote vegan/vegetarian foods. We're still not exactly sure what we'll be doing but we'll need volunteers either way to make our table sucessful and get the message out (among others) that real environmentalists don't eat meat!

Vegan/Vegetarian Potluck: OAA is going to schedule a summer picnic potluck at a local park most likely in mid-late June. It could be more fun that way anyways as people could also play some frisbee or badminton or whatver plus it's free to have it there. I would really appreciate it if you could still make the $10 donation (to support OAA) on behalf of yourself and your guests if they would like to still come to a picnic version of the potluck in a few months. You can make the donation(s): 1) At the demo next Saturday2) come to the meeting at Bridgehead on the 21st or just drop by then with your donation.Anyone who makes a $10 donation will be marked down on a guest list as having paid for the SUMMER POTLUCK event and will just need to bring themselves and their food dish. Details on the picnic to come in later updates.
Seal Hunt.. If you haven't yet done it...
Hi there, It's me, Edelweiss, on a cheery campaign to help little wet creatures! Yeah, it's true that seal hunters need work (although I think they should make environmentally friendly furniture from wheatboard, an agricultural waste product made of chopped straw and nontoxic glue--or something like that--instead. Create a job that can provide employment for years to come!). It's true that there are diminishing stocks of fish (although as omnivores, I think people should cut down on fish consumption rather than seals). But there are lots of compelling reasons to stop the seal hunt (keep wet cute creatures alive; leave the marine ecosystem alone). Please consider writing in and asking that the seal hunt be banned or restricted. http://www.stopthesealhunt.com/site/apps/ka/ct/contactcustom.asp?c=hmKYJeNVJtF&b=412891

It would be wonderful if everyone who is interested in Vegan Gourmet cheese to call the Natural Food Pantry in the Market, and request them to carry the Mozzarella flavor. Best time to call the Natural Food Pantry is MONDAY MORNING before noon as that is when they make up their order. Call 241-6629 and speak with Drew or Linda and ask them to order the Mozzarella flavor Vegan Gourmet cheese! I have tried Monterey Jack and Cheddar which they carry and neither taste as good as Mozzarella. Trust me. Loblaws charges $7 for the Vegan Gourmet cheese, but Natural Food Pantry only charges $5 and I would prefer to support them if I can. For more information about Vegan Gourmet Cheese, Please see: http://www.imearthkind.com/ My personal review is: I have tried other vegan cheeses and never liked them... but when I got the Mozzarella it was GREAT! You cannot eat it cold, but melted on pizza, lasagna, in pasta dishes.. I used it in a curry cheese dish (http://vaalea.com/vegn/food/recipes.htm#109502951007760876)... all taste awesome! It doesn't taste exactly like cheese but satisfies your cheese craving... and does not have a strong gross taste like other cheeses imo. I have had dishes with the cheese, and it's not very noticeable, but when the dish is made without the cheese it does not taste as good at all! If you have not yet tried Vegan Gourmet Mozzarella, you must!

Pictures of the last vegan meetup here: http://vaalea.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=134#134
IMPORTANT UPCOMING CHANGE!
I would like to combine the vegetarian and vegan meetups into a veg*n meetup (under the vegetarian section as I figure people would look there before the vegan section).. so that people don't have to register for BOTH groups, and get emails from BOTH groups. To start, I've put both events here to RSVP: http://vegetarian.meetup.com/6/events/
Meetup Feedback
If you have RSVPed for a meetup before, you would have received an email requesting feedback. If you ever wonder what happens to the things you (and others) write, here is where you can see them...
Share your thoughts about the venue: the next time the restaurant is chosen as a venue for the meetup, people can click on the restaurant name, and your comments on the venue will pop up along with everyone else's.
Share your thoughts about the event: can be found by going to the "Events" page. Next to the heading "Upcoming Events" is a link called "See past events". Click on the event you wish to see the comments on.
Share your thoughts about your Meetup Group: can by found in the Member testimonials column on the "About" page.
